How long does window tint take to cure?
BEAK Automotive · Updated November 7, 2026
The short answer
Keep the windows rolled up for 3 to 5 days after installing tint, so the film's edges can bond. The film keeps drying for longer: a little haze or small water pockets are normal and usually clear in one to a few weeks, faster in warm, sunny weather and slower in cold or humid weather.
The first week
- Days 1–5: don't roll the windows down, and don't clean the inside of the glass.
- Haze or a milky look: normal, it's water drying out.
- Small water bubbles: normal, they shrink as the film cures. Don't press them.
- Park in the sun when you can; warmth speeds curing.
Caring for tint afterwards
- Clean with soapy water or an ammonia-free glass cleaner and a soft microfiber cloth.
- Avoid ammonia cleaners, which can damage film over time.
- Don't use scrapers or rough pads on the film side of the glass.
- Watch seat belt buckles and rings against the film when getting in and out.
The honest downsides
- Rolling a window down too early can catch the film's edge and peel it; that damage usually isn't covered by warranties.
